Windows Mobile incorporates support for Flash and PDF

Microsoft has licensed Adobe Flash Lite and the Flash Player runtime for mobile devices, so that Windows Mobile phone users can view Flash content in the browser. Microsoft has also licensed the Adobe Reader LE software so that Windows Mobile users can view the PDF files.

The two companies hope to introduce Flash and PDF support on Windows Mobile devices by the end of the year.

This move stands in stark contrast to Apple CEO Steve Jobs’s recent argument against Flash Lite support on the iPhone. According to Jobs, Flash Lite lacks the power demanded by iPhone users.

Anup Murarka, director of technical marketing for devices and mobiles at Adobe, says: “We would love to see Flash on the iPhone.”

Apple would have to work with Adobe to license Flash for the iPhone. “Fortunately we have the opportunity to review the SDK, and if there is a vehicle to offer a solution we will see how to work with Apple,” says Murarka.
