Valve has quietly released its first official image of its upcoming VR headset. Based on the photo and the name on the Steam page, the headset appears to have a name Valve index.
The image of the headset was posted on its website with little detail and promised more information in May.
Valve, the company behind popular game titles like Half-Life, Portal, and Dota 2, also runs the online game store Steam.
Until now, Valve was photographed as a helping partner for HTC to build its Vive headphones. With the fact that Valve has its own headphones, it is likely to surprise existing gamers. CNET reports.
According a report by Kotaku, Valve has been working on its own VR headsets for a while. It is also very likely that the company plans to release advanced drivers that will work with this headset.
Additionally, Valve is likely also working on a new Half-Life game that will likely launch with ‘The Valve Index’.
The image posted on the website doesn’t hint at any specs, but since Valve has been behind the technology that powers the Vive headphones, the Valve Index can be expected to be a high-end device.
