The viral short video app, TikTok, has a new rival in the app market. It’s from Yandex, the Russian software giant, and they called it Sloy. The app was initially launched on the App Store and will eventually make its way to Android.
Sloy in Russian means cape. Follow the same formula that made TikTok viral: short, fast-uploaded videos. The app has been in development for some time and came into beta test in June. It is primarily intended for fashion and style, but it wouldn’t be a surprise if it goes into other areas. For now, you can identify the clothing items that the user is wearing.
Currently, the application is only available on the Apple App Store for iOS users in Russia, Belarus, and Kazakhstan. It will hit Android in 2020. Yandex also plans to launch the app in Europe and the US next year.
TikTok has been incredibly successful. So much so that even Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg acknowledged that it is doing well in India and surpassed Instagram. Reuters reported that the viral app sees more than 500 million users every month.
