The capacity of hard drives will multiply by 4 in 2010

During the Perpendicular Magnetic Recording Conference in Tokyo, Western Digital announced a new milestone in data recording, having achieved recording densities of 520 Gb / in2. This density will make it possible to manufacture 3.5-inch drives of up to 3 TB, compared to 750 GB today.

To achieve this, Western Digital has used its own perpendicular magnetic recording (PMR) / (TuMR) tunnel magnetoresistance technology. The forecast is that the first units based on this technology can be commercialized in 2010.
