Samsung had announced its own Smart speaker powered by Bixby in August 2018 and the company has been silent since its launch ever since.
The Korean tech giant’s head of mobile business DJ Koh finally broke his silence and declared that the Galaxy Home smart speaker will launch in April.
For those who don’t remember, the Galaxy Home is a tabletop smart speaker that uses Samsung’s Bixby virtual assistant to respond to voice commands. Its sound performance is optimized by the company’s AKG division and it comes with the ability to direct sound depending on where you place it in a room.
Talking to CNETKoh, shortly after the Galaxy Unpacked event revealed the extra bit of information, but did not reveal anything in terms of the markets the product can be brought to.
The device is meant to compete with users like the Amazon Echo, Google Home, and Apple HomePod. However, considering how late Samsung is arriving at the smart speaker party, the Korean giant might find it an uphill task to enter the market. to flourish.
The other part of the challenge for Samsung lies in the fact that even if the Galaxy Home performs in the sound department, it is the Bixby limitation that could lead people to sites like Google Home or HomePod.
