Review of BlueStacks 2, an excellent Android emulator for Windows

Some time ago we had talked about BlueStacks, definitely one of the best Android emulators that exist for PC. Its success lies in its simplicity of installation and use. This not a virtual machine, nor does it mount a full Android operating system on your computer, but rather it is a very simplified version of the system that allows you to run Android applications on Windows very efficiently.

Today I am going to talk about this program again, as its creators have released BlueStacks 2, the new version of the emulator, which is definitely worth trying. Among the main improvements that we can find as soon as we enter the emulator, is its new graphical interface, which now has a side menu on the left, with some very useful functions, such as the volume control, copy and paste, simulate that the device is rotated or shaken, among others.

The second and most important improvement of BlueStacks 2 compared to previous versions, is its ability to multitask. Now in the emulator you can open several Apps at the same time, as in Android. In BlueStacks 2 this is displayed by means of tabs. Each App opens in a separate tab, and you can switch from one to the other in the same way that you would with the tabs of a browser like Chrome.

Some very useful functions can be configured if you do not have a touch screen on your PC, such as the Key Mapping that allows you to simulate different gestures or touches on the screen using the keyboard. For example, set the keyboard arrows to act like swipes with your finger at those angles.

Even though BlueStacks 2 comes with the full integration with Google Play and many of Google’s services, this is still an emulator, and not a full Android environment. If you wanted to have the latter, the most advisable thing would be to install a virtual machine for example. On the other hand, BlueStacks 2 is perfect for running applications that we use frequently on the PC and thus having to avoid using the cell phone when we are working. Too it could be very useful, if we have a low-end phone that does not allow us to run some games from the store that our PC will surely be able to run with BlueStacks 2. In any case you should know that there is a price to pay, and it is advertising, because this emulator after a while of use, will start to show you advertisements, which despite annoying and hindering the user experience a bit, are a small price compared to the advantages of having this excellent emulator on Windows.
