Plaxo, who defines himself as the creator of the “smart agenda” service, has recently updated its beta software to version 3.0 to support the OpenID and microformats open standards.
OpenID is a decentralized single access system. On OpenID compliant sites users do not need to generate and remember an additional username and password. Instead, they access with a personal URL that they have registered with any OpenID provider.
The company has also published an OpenID implementation guide to accelerate its adoption by the industry.
Microformats are standards-based data formats that identify specific information on the web page, such as a calendar event or contact information, allowing it to be easily shared with other services. Plaxo has implemented support for the hCard and hCal microformats.
