Among the new features of the product is the so-called “SmartSelect” which consists of an option that allows you to open any Windows file in Mac OS X using an application from any of the operating systems. For example, SmartSelect is automatically configured to mount and open the .dmg installation files on Mac OS X even if they have been downloaded in Windows using Internet Explorer, as well as automatically open the .exe files even if they are located on Mac OS X.

Another notable feature of the new version is the support of 3-D OpenGL and DirectX graphics, and that it allows users to run Windows games from Parallels without the need to restart.

The “Snapshots” allow to store the state of the virtual machine, saving it at regular time intervals. This allows you to revert to a previous state, and control isolation and integration levels using the VM Sentry feature. It is also possible to configure the virtual machine as “read only” in order to protect it. Parallels also includes a trial version of virus and spyware protection software.

The Spanish version as well as the boxed product will be available soon through Avanquest Ibérica, editor of Parallels in Spain. The standard price for Parallels Desktop 3.0 is 79.99 euros.
