The main novelty of the future RealPlayer is its ability to download online videos from websites, using a button like “Download this video”. You can download it to your computer’s hard drive, burn it to DVD and CD, and share the links from the original source. RealNetworks has indicated that the new feature works with QuickTime, Flash, Windows Media, and Real files. The new RealPlayer software allows you to download multiple videos simultaneously, in addition to watching them as they download.
RealNetworks advises that the new download and burn feature only works with video that is not protected by digital rights management (DRM) systems.
Other new features in this version are an improved interface, easier installation, and faster video playback.
The version of Windows, announced for this June, will be a public beta. RealNetworks indicates that the Mac version will be available at the end of the year, although it has not specified a specific month or date. The developer has also announced plans to produce a future version of RealPlayer that will allow users to stream online video content to portable devices.
