“By our calculations, we have eclipsed the entire Mac platform in the first five weeks of availability,” said Kevin Turner, Microsoft’s chief operating officer, at the company’s annual financial review meeting.
Turner has indicated that there are 42 million PCs covered by annual licensing agreements for Vista. He has also said that strong renewals of business license agreements are driving the adoption of the new system. “Customers are acquiring maintenance with the right to upgrade to Vista because they are planning the deployment of this system,” he said.
Thus, it has indicated companies such as the Continental Air company plans to deploy 10,000 positions with Windows Vista by the end of the year, and that the Bradesco bank in Brazil has already done so with 70,000 positions. Microsoft itself has updated 10,000 posts to its system.
Steve Balmer, CEO of Microsoft, has stated that the installed base of Windows will reach 1 billion in the next 12 months. “If you stop and think for a moment, at the end of our fiscal year 2008 there will be more computers using Windows in the world than cars, which for me is a kind of immeasurable concept,” said Balmer.
