SpaceX’s Big Falcon Rocket (BFR), a fully reusable vehicle designed to get humans and supplies to Mars and also to dramatically reduce travel time within Earth, is getting a new name, Starship, the CEO of the company, Elon Musk.
“Changing the name from BFR to Starship,” Musk said in a tweet at the end of November 19.

This two-stage vehicle. – Composed of a Booster and a Boat. – It is designed to eventually replace the Falcon 9, Falcon Heavy and Dragon spacecraft.
It is designed to meet all the needs of Earth orbit, as well as the Moon and Mars.
In a tweet, Musk explained that Starship would be the name of the spacecraft / upper stage and Super Heavy would be the rocket booster needed to escape Earth’s gravity well.
However, Musk’s 23.5 million followers on the microblogging site were not impressed.
While one Twitter user called the new name “boring,” another was “quite disappointed.” However, some users liked the name change.
On September 17, SpaceX announced that Japanese billionaire Yusaku Maezawa will be the company’s first private passenger to fly around the Moon aboard the company’s BFR rocket in 2023.
In response to a response that unless this “starship” is sent on a mission to another star system, it cannot be called a “starship”, Musk said “later versions (of the rocket) will.”
In a tweet over the weekend, Musk said SpaceX no longer plans to upgrade the Falcon 9 second stage to repurpose it.
Instead of updating Falcon 9 for greater reusability, SpaceX was now focusing on “speeding up BFR.”
“The new design is very exciting! Deliciously counterintuitive,” he said.
