Blue launches a $ 100 XLR mic

Blue has done research work and carved out a place for himself in the growing world of amateur podcasters. The company’s USB microphones, such as Yeti and Snowball, have become a stable among those who launch programs with limited experience and budget.

This week at CES, the company (now part of Logitech) offered an interesting look at its existing lineup with the Ember, a micro stick that swaps USB for the most ubiquitous XLR (in the audio world).

The device retains the familiar retro design and the company’s price point, which comes in at a penny under $ 100. It’s an interesting take on the category and perhaps a growing niche, as many users look to give a step towards a more serious audio setup.

Of course, the company has a lot more competition with the XLR mic, from mainstays like Shure, whose popular SM-57 costs about the same, and Rode, which has made some compelling podcasting mics as well. The Ember features a cardiod pickup designed to pick up audio from the speaker and not ambient noise.

Blue’s offer is available for pre-order and should start shipping in April.
