The developer has shown its intention to launch the game simultaneously for Mac and Windows platforms. The StarCraft game series has so far sold around 9.5 million copies.
The real-time strategy game will include the return of revised and updated versions for the Protoss, Terran and Zerg races, as well as new units and different game mechanics and possibilities.
StarCraft II will also include a custom 3-D graphics engine with more realistic physics as well as the ability to generate highly detailed units alongside massive armaments.
Mike Morhaime, president and co-founder of Blizzard Entertainment has stated, “With StarCraft II we will be able to do everything we wanted to do in the original StarCraft. We know the expectations are high considering the popularity of the original game, and we want to meet them by offering an experience that all StarCraft and strategy game players around the world can enjoy. ”
In addition to an online multiplayer game option, StarCraft II will include a single player campaign. It will be sold alongside an editor based on Blizzard’s own design tools.
