Apple updates the MacBook

Apple has updated its range of MacBook consumer notebooks, with faster Intel Core 2 Duo processors, 1GB of memory, and higher capacity hard drives on all models.

“The MacBook is hugely successful with customers, and it’s one reason Mac sales are growing three times faster than PCs,” says Philip Schiller, Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Product Marketing. “The new MacBook is faster, has more memory and storage capacity, and is an ideal laptop for customers’ ever-growing music, photo and video libraries.”

Equipped with a 13-inch diagonal screen, the MacBook is available in three models: two white models with 2.0 GHz and 2.16 GHz processors, and a black MacBook with 2.16 GHz processor.

The new MacBooks are immediately available in the following three configurations:

White MacBook with 13-inch screen and 2.0 GHz processor, with a suggested price of 999 euros (VAT included), which includes a bright 13.3-inch screen and 1,280 x 800 pixel resolution, Intel Core 2 processor 2.0GHz Duo, 667MHz FSB, 1GB 667MHz DDR2 SDRAM (expandable to 2GB), 80GB Serial ATA 5400rpm Hard Drive with Rough Motion Sensor, Combo-type optical drive (DVD-ROM / CD-RW), Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 950 graphics processor, Mini-DVI output, gigabit Ethernet port, AirPort Extreme 802.11n wireless communication and Bluetooth 2.0 + EDR, two USB 2.0 ports and one FireWire 400 port, one port audio input and an audio output port.

The white 2.16 GHz MacBook has a recommended price of 1,199 EUR (VAT included), with the same characteristics of the base model, except that in this case it offers a higher processor speed, the optical drive is a SuperDrive (DVD + R DL / DVD ± RW / CD-RW), and the hard disk capacity is 120GB.

Finally, the black MacBook clocked at 2.16 GHz has a recommended price of 1,399, adding on top of the previous one a larger hard drive capacity with 160 GB of storage

Custom configuration options for the new MacBook include: hard drive upgrade to 120GB or 160GB (5400rpm) or 200GB (4200rpm); up to 2GB of DDR2 SDRAM memory; Apple USB modem; Apple Mini-DVI to DVI adapter; Apple Mini-DVI to VGA adapter; Apple MagSafe Airline Adapter power adapter and AppleCare Protection Plan. Additional custom configuration options include pre-installation of iWork ’06, Logic Express 7, Final Cut Express HD 3.5, and Aperture 1.5.
