Apple spokeswoman Jennifer Bowcock declined to say how many used iPhones they had in stock to sell. These used phones are refurbished and serviced by Apple before being sold and come from those that are returned to Apple for its refund policy within 14 days.
The 4GB model costs $ 399 versus $ 499 for a brand new one, and the 8GB version is offered for $ 499, up from the $ 599 it originally cost.
Apple CEO Steve Jobs plans to make the iPhone the company’s third-largest business, along with Macintosh computers and iPod players. They hope to sell 1 million iPhones before the end of September, which would be added to the 270,000 sold last quarter, after it went on sale on June 29 in the United States.
