Although it seems that WhatsApp is always the last to implement an improvement that has been present in other messaging applications for some time, it is true that this year the Facebook subsidiary has put the batteries, and is working on several improvements that are coming soon to the final version of the application.

One of these changes that are to come to WhatsApp is the native possibility of authenticate yourself within the application using the fingerprint sensor or facial scanner for now only on Apple devices. This would add an extra level of security that users have been asking for for many years.

This functionality has been reported this week by the guys at WABetaInfo who have had access to a beta of the application in which this functionality is present to be activated to suit the user, which is an indication that they will soon release it to the final version for iOS, and maybe with a little more delay do it with the Android version.

For those who are wondering how WhatsApp has managed to have access to the biometric sensors of the iPhone, when these can usually only be used by the native applications of the operating system, the answer as such is that they don’t really have access to them, and as such it only asks the operating system for permission through a token to allow us to open the app. This means that our biometric information will never be sent to WhatsApp servers.
