Nokia N900, mobile terminal with Linux-based system

Nokia has announced the Nokia N900, which replaces the previous generation N810 and incorporates Wi-Fi connection and 3G networks. The team uses Maemo 5, a Linux-based operating system, which will allow multiple applications to run simultaneously.

The Nokia N900 uses an ARM Cortex-A8 processor and 1GB of RAM. It supports OpenGL ES 2.0 graphics and has a 3.5 “widescreen touch screen customizable through widgets. This screen offers a resolution of 800 x 480 pixels and hides behind it a sliding QWERTY keyboard. In terms of storage capacity it has 32 GB, expandable up to 48 via a microSD card, it also has a 5 megapixel camera with Carl Zeiss optics.

Regarding the software, it uses a web browser based on Mozilla and with full Flash 9.4 support, which would allow to display web pages just like on a desktop computer.

The Nokia N900 will be available from October at a price of about 500 euros, although Nokia has not specified in which countries it will be launched first.

This week Nokia also announced its first netbook, the Booklet 3G, which is a complete Windows-based laptop.
