Google introduces Knol, its Wikipedia rival

Following the beta phase of Knol, announced several months ago, the new encyclopedia is now available.

Unlike Wikipedia, in Knol the entries are not open to free modification by anyone, but suggestions can be made and only the author will be the one to decide whether to incorporate them into the text or not. This will allow each entry to have a recognized author, who can insert Google ads (Addworks) and thus obtain some return for their dedication.

Another big difference is that while in Wikipedia all content is shared under a Creative Commons license, in Knol you can choose between this and the Copyright for each article.
