Today the other big apple turns 40

The myth of the garage where Jobs and Wozniak supposedly created Manzana, turned out to be false. “The garage was ourselves,” Wozniak once said. That is the least, because the history of Apple, from its beginnings to the present, leaves no one indifferent. How three penniless young Californians manage to create an empire that, paradoxes of life, ends up surviving without them.

The beginnings. The Apple I.

Wozniak had manually created a microcomputer kit for an electronics fan club.

Technology was dawning.

And to Jobs, who had just returned from a spiritual retreat in an apple orchard, it seemed that this home computer could be commercialized. The name: Apple, of course.

Ronald wayne He was in charge of designing the first logo that we no longer recognize.

The price: $ 666.66, a symbolic and very low price, for one of the first personal computers in the world. A “do you yourself” kit that could be connected to a television. Success was assured.

Although the production of that first model was very humble, only about 200 units, it gave them enough push and investment to keep going. A year later, the Apple II, also devised by Wozniak, who, now, has led them directly to fame.

The race to the top

From there everything is a roller coaster for Apple. Failures and successes: Apple III, Lisa Y Macintosh. Abandonments: Ronald Wayne was the first to leave the ship when he sold his shares for $ 800, just a couple of weeks after it was founded. Then Wozniak left him. Jobs was forced to resign later.

Apple touched the sky and was almost on the brink of bankruptcy in 1997.

Just at that moment Jobs would return as a kind of showman and with him appeared the milestones that revolutionized the music, telephony and computer industries: iMac, iPod and iTunes, iPhone, iPad.

The rest is legend.

40 years maturing.

After Jobs’ death in 2011, Apple has remained true to its design and sales, ranking as the world’s top technology company in revenue. He has made new inroads with the iWatch and has continued to develop its products.
