Spam rate drops below 50 percent for the first time in the decade

According to the last Intelligence Report from Symantec, the spam rate stood at 49.7 percent in June. The spam levels have dropped for five years for many reasons. The network infrastructure providers are very committed to this problem and they take immediate action as soon as a case is detected. Furthermore, unlike six or seven years ago, the sending billions of messages via botnets is no longer as feasible. Rigorous enforcement of regulations and the commitment of companies like Microsoft have significantly reduced the action of these massive attack networks.

The improvements in filtering and blocking attacks They have also contributed to this decline, reducing unsolicited advertising messages reaching inboxes, thus lowering response rates to this type of email.

This is not to say that spam will be completely reduced, but as the cost of entry increases, its viability decreases.

According to the same Symantec report, the phishing and email-based malware were also reduced in June, which shows that “attackers are transferring their threats to other environments.”
