Sony and HTC bet strongly on wearable technology

Sony already showed at the beginning of the year at the CES celebration, a small Core sensor that will be used in the products of its SmartWear range. The first of them will be SmartBand, and it is a bracelet that works with a new application, called Lifelog, on a smartphone. So far, very few details of the device are known, but the MWC in Barcelona may be the place where more information is given about this device and others in the same category. It would not be surprising given that it will have a space dedicated to technology to wear, Wearables Workshop, as well as a VIP reception, with which it will predictably generate expectation and media coverage.

Both companies want to stand out in this incipient market and not be late, especially Sony, since with tablets and smartphones it seems that it was somewhat late and with its seventh place in the Xperia range, it has 3.8 percent of the total market worldwide and 38 million devices sold, according to IDC.

In the case of HTC, they are just rumors, but there are forecasts that it can show up to 3 different prototypes of smart watches or bracelets related to the technology to wear.

According to ABI Research, up to 90 million wearable technology devices could be sold in 2014. However, “wearable” technology will be represented by a diversity of devices, but only those with a clear use and a target audience will be successful. ABI Research anticipates that smart glasses will not be in great professional demand at the moment.
