Berners-Lee urges to protect the rights of users in the network

The British scientist, main actor of the inventors of the network that we know today as the World Wide Web, has requested during the celebration of the CeBIT fair that it is necessary to promote freedom of expression on the Internet, as well as the rights of users, in response to the latest leaks on government espionage of online activity.

Berners-Lee now believes that a common response is necessary and warns of the dangers to Internet freedom in countries like China. While recognizing that states need the capacity to deal with crime, the scientist believes it necessary to apply greater control over the espionage agencies of countries such as the United Kingdom or the United States.

As a member of the World Wide Web Consortium, a global community with a mission to guide the Web to its fullest potential, it has launched an online campaign called “The Web We Want” to promote a bill of rights on the Internet for all countries.
