Knife-only racing has been a staple of the Capcom community since the original Resident Evil on PlayStation. During these games, the Fans challenge themselves to complete various Resident Evil games using only the knife as an offensive weapon, no weapons are allowed.
A successful knife career is challenging and requires intimate knowledge of the Resident Evil game being attempted. Unfortunately, knife racing was basically impossible in the new version of Resident Evil 2 because the knives in that game would break. This is because knives were used as a defensive weapon to prevent zombies from biting you. Some would argue that this made knives more valuable, but it had the unfortunate consequence of killing the knife race.
"We kept the knife inexhaustible [in Resident Evil 3], so you can use it forever," says producer Peter Fabiano. We are dealing with the horror of survival and everything is exhaustible. You run out of bullets. You run out of herbs. You run out of all the items you can use. So if you ran out of everything, what would you have? The knife. The director always wanted to do it so that he at least has his trusty knife. That is always something you can trust. "
Capcom went on to clarify that they are aware that hardcore stalwarts like to challenge themselves to run with knives only, and that they have tried knife-only games in the office. The study says it's not easy, but some team members have completed the new version of Resident Evil 3 with just a knife.
Personally, I keep the shotgun.
