The American multinational HP has spent the last two years launching pioneering teams in some way in design. All are proposed with a maxim: to catch the senses, especially the view, with the HP Specter Folio and HP Envy Wood models. In convertible laptops this strategy is embodied in the HP Specter x360, a peculiar laptop for the cut corners and its combination of materials and colors. The result: a supreme level of sophistication.
Design: premium falls short
HP Specter x360 13 exudes elegance on all four sides. Manufactured from a single piece of aluminum, its almost black matte navy color is combined with the gold tone (very subtle, sometimes it seems silver) of the edges, the hinges and the HP logo on the lid. The result is a luxurious, high-jewelry look that you won't find on any other laptop on the market.
As in the previous generation, the most distinctive feature of this PC in sight is the cutout of the two upper corners. Esthetically this detail gives it personality and, in addition, HP takes advantage of that space to clear other parts and integrate the power button (left side) and a USB-C port (on the right) to charge it comfortably while the computer is idle.
As for ports, it comes with the essentials and it is a lot considering the thickness and size of this 2-in-1 laptop: on the right side is the micro-SD card slot, the button to disable the webcam, a USB-C with Thunderbolt 3 and the battery charging light. On the left side, the headphone or microphone input and a USB-A port.
The team incorporates a 13.3-inch touch screen without bezels in a body of a minimum size. With a glossy IPS panel and Full HD resolution, it is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass NBT and anti-reflective technology. The screen of this laptop displays content in excellent quality. It allows you to work even on a sunny day without problems, especially if you increase the brightness to the maximum, although this will cause greater consumption of the battery. Our analysis unit does not have the HP Sure View Privacy Polarizing Filter.
Perfect for commuting
HP has managed to reduce the size of the chassis compared to the previous version and the laptop does not occupy anything, it fits in a bag without problems. Gripping it doesn't feel heavy at 1.3 kilos (2.8 pounds), but it is a considerable weight considering the 13-inch size. It feels very robust and its hinges are sturdy.
When you rest it on a table, it is very stable thanks to rubber reinforcements that prevent it from slipping. If you put it over your legs to work, you will notice that it warms up more than desirable, although it does not become a problem either.
Aimed at users looking for a laptop premium At its highest level, HP includes a sleek black leather case for safer portability while retaining elegance (fits like a glove). The optical pencil also comes in the box included (it is the HP Tilt Pen, which is worth 99.99 euros). With the Whiteboard application, this accessory facilitates handwriting and drawings with different pencils (colors, thicknesses, etc.) for those who want to use it creatively. But it is pencil you will have to take it apart because the laptop It does not incorporate any space or support to magnetically adhere it.
Good technical equipment
With a 10-generation Intel Core i7-1065G7 processor, 8GB LPDDR4-3200SDRAM, 512GB hard drive, Intel Iris Plus graphics, and Windows Home 64, performance won't be a problem, allowing you to be productive at work. In moments of leisure, for entertainment with series and movies, you will not be disappointed and neither with games as long as they are not too demanding, it is not a device to play.
In audio it could not be less than in design, and it has two double Bang & Olufsen speakers. The sound is clear and loud enough. For tablet mode, external physical buttons will be useful, because those on the keyboard are below.
A comfortable keyboard and touch panel
To achieve such a small and manageable size, HP Specter reduces the space dedicated to the keyboard (full) and, even so, the keys are widely spaced and we found it very comfortable (although the keys are a bit hard to press for our liking) . For use in low light conditions, it has a backlit keyboard with two light intensities that are adjusted with a physical button from the keyboard itself. To protect privacy, you also find a microphone mute button.
The touch panel o touchpad It is smaller than normal and may be a bit small if you are used to using a larger one. Apart from this smaller space, it works smoothly and precisely.
On the right side of the touch panel, just below the arrow keys, there is a small square: it is the fingerprint reader. It is configured very easily and is very useful because it is accessed very quickly and because if you also have access to Windows Hello facial identification, you do not need to be right in front of the webcam to unlock it, you just put your finger on it, and you're done.
Battery for the whole day
The battery can be one of the most important points when deciding on a laptop. In our tests, with the screen brightness at a medium level, its autonomy has reached six and a half hours with a continuous playback of YouTube video. Keep in mind that autonomy can vary greatly depending on the use it is given, as it happens with any other device. If the battery runs out, HP Specter x360 13 charges very fast: in half an hour it reaches 50 percent.
The Type-C power adapter for recharging is small in size and the fabric-covered cable gives it a look more in keeping with the degree of refinement of the notebook than the conventional rubber one.
The HP Specter x360 13 notebook has a static super premium, it is robust and comfortable to travel due to its small size and weight. It has the essential connections and facilitates privacy with physical buttons. Their autonomy should be sufficient for the entire working day.
You will fit if your priority is exquisite design and, at the same time, you need a laptop that ensures good performance for both work and entertainment. Some of the specifications, such as RAM or hard drive, are not the most advanced, but such a laptop does not require them either. It is not user-oriented anymore techies, and they will considerably increase its official price of 1,499 euros ($ 1,600 dollars in exchange), which already represents a considerable amount (the design is paid).
In the convertible segment, if you are looking for a similar proposal, HP Dragonfly is lighter than the Specter x360 13 and less elegant. If you need one laptop Larger, you can fit the HP Specter x360 15 model. From other manufacturers, with 13 inches, consider the option Lenovo Yoga S730 or Dell XPS 13, also elegant, but its design is far from the Specter x360.
