How to pin on Google Maps to locate places of interest

Millions of people trust Google Maps daily to get around. But sometimes a map is not enough to take you to the place you need to get to. Regardless of whether you share your location with friends or are looking for a business, a park or any other destination, knowing how to put a pin on Google Maps will make your life easier. We walk you through the process, which works exactly the same way on iOS and Android.

A person holds a phone with the Google Maps application open, learning how to pin Google Maps.

Putting pins in Google Maps from the cell phone

The newer version of Google Maps has made the process of pinning from the search box even easier. In fact, it places it automatically. The app assumes that if you are looking for a particular destination, you want there to be a pin there. So when looking for an address, note that a pin will be placed automatically. Anyway, you still have to tap and hold the location if you're directly using the map interface to find a location.

Step 1: Open the Google Maps application on your iPhone or Android device.

Step 2: Search for an address using the search bar at the top of the screen, or scroll the map until you find the location where you want to place a pin.

Step 3: Press and hold the screen to release the pin. Note: If you are using an iPhone, make sure not to press hard enough to activate Force Touch.

Step 4: Tap the pin to get directions to that location and share or save them.

Putting pins on Google Maps on the computer

Step 1: Navigate to the Google Maps website.

Step 2: Search for an address using the search bar on the upper left side of the screen or scroll the map until you find the location where you want to place a pin.

Step 3: Click with the left mouse button where you want to drop the pin. You may have to zoom in or lightly click on either side of the location where you want to place the pin if there is already a marker there. You will see a small gray pin appear, as well as an information box at the bottom of the screen.

Step 4: Tap the navigation icon in the info box to get directions to the pin or click anywhere else in the box to bring up more information about the location you selected.

Step 5: From the additional information screen, you can save the pin to Your places, where you can quickly access them in the future from the main menu.

Placing multiple pins on a map on the computer

By default, you can only place a single pin at a time. The easiest way to keep track of multiple pins is by keeping them in My PlacesBut what if you want to show them all on the same screen? There is another option: Create your own map. Creating your own map can not only help you visualize multiple pins more easily, but they can also be added to websites to more easily display multiple locations of a company or multiple companies that can participate in an event. We show you how to make your own Google map.

Step 1: Navigate to the Google Maps website.

Step 2: Although it is not necessary to log in to put individual pins (unless you want to save them), you must log in to create a map. Do it now.

Step 3: In the upper left corner of the screen, click on the menu icon.

Step 4: Click Your sites, Then in Maps and finally in Create map.

Step 5: A new window will open with your personalized map. Give it a title and a description; make sure to push save before clicking.

Step 6– You can now locate locations by clicking on the marker icon below the search bar and locating it directly on the map or searching for specific locations.

Step 7: If you only plan to use the map for yourself, there is nothing else you should do. If you want to share it, press the icon Share in the upper left.
