I have to say that I am really surprised by the price of said product. I know this is the first time that Cambridge Audio has launched to produce true wireless headphones, but I honestly think they could have gotten more out of this initiative by charging more. The Melomania 1s don't have as many features as some competing models in this price range, but the design and sound quality can compete with much more expensive true wireless headphones.
A few quick little words about his name. Melomania is actually the name of a venue / event built in the basement of Cambridge Audio's London offices. The etymology comes from Latin and ancient Greek. It refers to "an abnormal love for music". It is an evil from which the Cambridge Audio boys all tell me to suffer.
Premium feel, clean design
The design of the Melomania 1 is typical of Cambridge Audio devices. Neat. Underrated Almost minimalist at times.
The 5.8mm drivers are made of graphene, making them lightweight (4.6g each) but tough. There is an IPX5 certification to protect them from sweat and occasional downpours. The buds They stand out a bit more than, say, the Earin M-2 models and are just as bulky as those on the Galaxy Samsung.
The case looks far superior to the competition. Charging is done by putting the tip of the headphones directly into the case, so there are no ugly metal tips in sight when the headphones are out of the case. The tips snap together magnetically. It is a strong and precise connection. The same goes for the lid. It has a certain lace that is not obtained in other cases in this price range. Do you know that the door of a luxury car has such a specific sound that it feels when you close it? This is also a bit of the case of the Melomania 1 charging case.
Each earpiece has a molded button to form the brand's logo – itself a throwback considering its early audio equipment – which is used for the controls. A single press on the right earcup allows playback to be activated and paused. A double press allows you to skip to the next track. The same gesture on the left earbud allows you to return to the previous song. A long press adjusts the volume up (right) and down (left). You can press once to accept an incoming phone call or use a long press to reject it. To access your smartphone's digital voice assistant, pause and then double-tap on each side.
Bluetooth 5.0 technology provides wireless connectivity of up to 30 meters and better battery efficiency. Inside the case you will find a selection of silicone and memory foam tips of different sizes as well as a short USB cable for charging.
Balanced sound for the music tricks
The sound offered by the Melomania 1 is of high quality and shares the company's proposal to offer great British sound. The philosophy here is that music is listened to in the way the artist puts it, without adding or removing swimming. As a result, the sound is very balanced. There is more emphasis on treble than bass.
What does 45 hours of battery sound like?
The battery life of the Melomania 1 is, without a doubt, one of the highlights of these headphones.
The charging case comes with a 700 mAH battery, which can hold four complete chargers. Combined with another 9 hours of charging on the headphones themselves, you get a total of 45 hours of 100% zero music playback.
For comparison, it's almost twice the battery life of Apple's AirPods (24 hours) and three times longer than Nokia's True Wireless headphones. This long autonomy is due to the use of Qualcomm aptX technology. These headphones are extremely energy efficient. During my tests, the 45-hour claim was true. It is not often that I run out of battery and have to leave the headphones on my desk while I work to check the manufacturer's claims on battery life.
Cambridge Audio Melomania 1 – Technical Specifications
For its first foray into the market for true wireless headphones, Cambridge Audio has come a long way. The Melomania 1 lives up to the brand's reputation for audio quality and contemporary design aesthetics. The lack of active noise cancellation or companion app for EQ controls should not be overlooked, but this product offers award-winning British audio engineer at an affordable price.
There is no confirmation that the brand is going to launch an improved version, but I would not be surprised if the London team was already launching ideas for the Melomania 2. If this is the starting point for Cambridge Audio's entry into the real market. wireless headphones, I'm excited to see what to do next.
