Apple is encouraging all employees at its headquarters to work from home to combat the spread of the coronavirus, joining other tech giants like Microsoft and Google.
He issued a memo on Friday advising his staff of 12,000 people in Apple Park in Cupertino to stay away as a "precaution" as the virus begins to spread more rapidly throughout the country.
It occurred in the middle of 20 confirmed cases of the disease in Santa Clara County. Officials there had previously asked large companies to consider allowing employees to work remotely to limit close contact.
He has issued a similar memorandum for his workers in the Seattle area to work from home. It was not immediately clear how many employees have complied with the requests.
The company said last month that the spread of the virus in China could cause iPhone shortages and unfulfilled revenue targets.
