If you plan to buy a phone in the coming months, with Samsung's flagship from early 2020 dramatically increased your options, which will cause you serious dilemmas In the war Samsung vs. Google, wins the Galaxy S20 Plus or the Pixel 4 XL?

It is already very difficult to choose between the three S20 models in the catalog, which scares the idea of comparing these models with other market references. But the reality is that way, and one of the best smartphones of the moment is the Google Pixel 4 XL. It is a large device with a lot of power and an absolutely impressive camera, backed by Google's unmatched use of the Android operating system. Can the intermediate model of the S20 range, the Galaxy S20 Plus, outperform the Google star team? We get you out of doubt below.

Design, screen and durability

The Galaxy S20 Plus is a beautiful phone. Like its predecessors, the S20 Plus features an elegant glass chassis with rounded edges that curve gently in the body. Almost the entire front is screen, with a single hole for the selfie camera. The Pixel 4 XL has reduced the frames compared to previous models, but keeps the top notch for selfie lens and sensors. It will be difficult to find someone who says that Pixel is the most attractive phone on the market.

The S20 Plus finds the advantage over the Pixel 4 XL in the screen size with its 6.7 inches. The sharpness should be similar, although the Pixel takes a slight advantage in terms of pixels per inch. While the Pixel would have previously had an advantage thanks to its 90Hz screen, Samsung has increased its display technology once again and the 120Hz refresh rate of the S20 Plus screen ends with that advantage.

And in regards to durability? The differences are minimal in this section: both phones have glass chassis, which makes them equally delicate against scratches, and both have the IP68 classification of dust and water resistance, but Samsung team wins in this section.

Winner: Samsung Galaxy S20 Plus

Performance, battery life and charge

Galaxy S20 in hand

The Galaxy S20 Plus, being more modern, equips the latest Qualcomm processor, the Snapdragon 865. Although the Snapdragon 855 of the Pixel 4 XL offers great performance, there is no doubt that the Snapdragon 865 is the fastest and most powerful of the two. To this new processor are added 12 GB of RAM, double the 6 GB available on the Pixel 4 XL. The storage is similar: the Pixel 4 XL reaches a maximum of 128 GB of storage, without a MicroSD card slot, while the S20 Plus also has 128 GB as standard, but can be expanded in 512 GB of storage with MicroSD cards up to 1 TB

If the Pixel 4 XL has an Achilles heel, it is the size of the battery: 3,700 mAh is not enough, and it translates into the fact that the phone barely holds a working day with medium use. We have not yet tested the battery in the S20 Plus, but its 4,500 mAh capacity is more in line with the size we expect from a powerful flagship phone. We are sure that the battery of the S20 Plus will last longer than that of the Pixel 4 XL. Compatibility with wireless charging and fast charging support does not make the Pixel 4 XL reach the level of the S20 Plus.

Winner: Samsung Galaxy S20 Plus

Price and availability

The Samsung Galaxy S20 Plus is available from March 6, 2020. As you know, it is not cheap, since prices start at $ 1,200 dollars. The Pixel 4 XL, meanwhile, can be purchased now and at a price of $ 899 dollars for the 64GB model.

Winner: Samsung Galaxy S20 Plus

The Google Pixel 4 XL is a great rival and has an exceptional camera, elegant software and powerful specifications, but it has some limitations, and these weaknesses are areas where the Samsung Galaxy S20 Plus really stands out. With an absolutely dazzling bezel-free design and a huge battery, the Galaxy S20 Plus has the substance to become one of the winners of 2020. With the latest Snapdragon 865 processor, a four-lens versatile camera and the full 5G experience, the Samsung Galaxy S20 Plus is the overall winner in this face to face, even if it is several hundred dollars more expensive.

Of course, this does not mean that it is not worth buying the Pixel 4 XL. On the contrary: if you love the pure Android experience and want an incredible camera, without worrying too much about the static part or the smaller battery, then it is worth considering the great flagship of Google.
