Review of the Galaxy S20 Ultra: is your camera the best?

"The Galaxy S20 Ultra is the most expensive model of the S20 series, but it is also the one that offers better qualities in terms of camera, battery and performance."

  • Elegant design

  • A battery that resists a whole day

  • High quality photographs

  • Record video in 8K

  • 5G support

  • 100x digital zoom is not good

  • The rear camera takes up a lot of space

  • Heavy

A few days ago, I arrived at the office of Digital Trends in Spanish one of the new phones of the Samsung S20 series: the Galaxy S20 Ultra. And of course, from day one, take the opportunity to test the great qualities that the manufacturer has highlighted, such as its camera and its 5G technology.

This is what I think of Samsung's new Galaxy S20 Ultra.

A heavy telephone among the light range

The Galaxy S20 Ultra has a great Dynamic AMOLED 6.9-inch screen that looks excellent and very aesthetic, since it covers almost the entire front of the phone.

At the top and center of the screen, you will find the single lens selfie camera and without the popular notch, which makes it look more minimalist. The camera not only serves to take photos, but also to unlock your phone through facial recognition.

The weight of the new Galaxy S20 Ultra is 220 grams, which is much greater compared to the 180 grams of the Galaxy S20 Plus and the Galaxy S10 Plus.

The first time I had it in my hands, I thought it was a heavy phone, maybe because for almost a year I have been using the Galaxy S10 and I thought the weight will be the same, or maybe even a little lighter, But it wasn't like that. And it is worth noting that in the tests that realic did not add any extra case to the new Samsung phone.

The Galaxy S20 Ultra has a great 6.9-inch Dynamic AMOLED screen that looks excellent and very aesthetic.

Although its weight (considerably higher) should not become any impediment to perform any activity or lift it with one hand, it is a feature that you should consider, especially if you like extra light devices.

An adjustable screen resolution

The 3,200 x 1,440 pixel screen resolution offered by the Galaxy S20 Ultra is really good, however, we must admit that it is not always necessary to have this resolution activated, especially if in certain occasions, your priority is to protect the life of the Battery as long as possible.

And the truth is that Samsung is aware of that. Therefore, in this device, you will find two more resolution options: the HD + 1,600 x 720 pixels and FDH + of 2,400 x 1,080 pixels, which although they are smaller, are very compliant.

A battery that resists the day without problems

Of the three models that make up the Samsung S20 series, the Galaxy S20 Ultra has the largest battery, although it also has a huge screen, which means it spends much more energy.

The battery size of this phone is 5,000 mAh, which is not only great on paper, but also in reality. In the tests I did, I managed to resist a full day of continuous activity without problems. In addition, other features that I loved was the fast load of 45 W, which allowed me to charge the phone from zero to 100 percent in less than an hour.

His magic is in the camera

In the Galaxy Unpacked 2020, Samsung said that the rear camera of the Galaxy S20 Ultra has three impressive lenses: a 108 megapixel lens, a 48MP telephoto and a 12MP ultra wide angle, which combines artificial intelligence with the image sensor largest we have seen on a Samsung phone.

And what does that mean? Simply that unlike other cameras on the market, it should project a greater resolution in the captured images, both in terms of color and sharpness, as if they were professionals, so that you can edit them or zoom into them without problems.

In addition, thanks to this great improvement in the lenses, more light should enter, which helps to raise the quality of the images in poorly lit situations.
