Performance, battery and charge

The new Kirin 990 processor of the Huawei Mate 30 Pro is naturally faster and more efficient than last year's Kirin 980, which is what you will find in the P30 Pro and the Mate 20 Pro. Huawei has also made improvements to the neuronal processing unit , largely to improve their photographic capabilities. There is 8 GB of RAM in the Mate 30 Pro, regardless of whether you opt for 128 GB or 256 GB of storage, while the previous two models offer 6 GB or 8 GB. There is no slot to expand that capacity through MicroSD cards, but all three support Huawei Nano memory cards.

The newest Huawei phone also has an advantage in terms of a battery with an extra capacity of 300 mAh and support for faster wireless charging. We found that the P30 Pro had a lot of autonomy, so the Mate 30 Pro should be able to last two days on a single charge. With a power of up to 27W, the wireless charging rate of the Mate 30 Pro is faster than the maximum cable charging rate for most phones.

Design and durability

There are some major design changes that really make the Mate 30 Pro stand out from the crowd. The large 6.53-inch screen has 88 degree curves on each side to achieve a waterfall effect. It comes with a notch on the top for the dual front lens camera. Although there is a power button on one side, you will not find any volume control: now it goes up and down by touching and then sliding along the curved edges of the screen. In the back, Huawei has placed its dual lens camera in circle and has accentuated it with a frame that captures the light. The glass finish has a degraded texture that ranges from matt at the bottom to bright at the top, and you can even get vegan leather versions if you prefer. The P30 Pro remains a very attractive phone, with a smaller notch in the front and a set of cameras stacked vertically in the upper left of the rear glass. The Mate 20 Pro had a larger notch and a square main chamber in the center.

All of them require a cover, but water is not a problem, since they all have a degree of protection IP68, which means they can survive immersion in shallow water for a short period of time.
