Dark mode is a function that is increasingly present in many applications and operating systems such as MacOS, Android and iOS. Turn your windows black, make the text and cones lighter in color and generally give a more nocturnal look to everything. It is nice if you prefer to work with more opaque tones or in environments without much light in which a very bright screen can hurt your eyes. This function also helps you save battery power, especially if your device has an OLED screen. In this guide, we will show you how to activate the dark mode in Windows 10 easily.
As dark mode is activated in Windows 10
In the October 10, 2018 update of Windows 10, Microsoft expanded the dark theme to include all parts of File Explorer. This means that when you activate the dark mode you will have an even darker result. This is how you can do it, in the most recent version of Windows 10.
Step 1: Go to Windows 10 Settings. You can type it in the Windows search bar or click on the gear cone inside the Start Menu.
Step 2: Go to Customization; There is a cone that represents a brush on a monitor.
Step 3: When the window opens, click on Colors, in the left column.
Step 4: Scroll to the middle of the page and look for the section that says Choose the default application mode. Then, in the option to choose the color, click on the one that says Dark.
Step 5: This step is optional, but you can also choose a color of emphasis. Scroll to the color palette at the top of the Colors window. With the dark mode activated, the emphasis color is even more important, as it helps you to locate where everything is in an instant.
We suggest you avoid colors that are too opaque, such as gray or very dark green, because they are harder to see. Light colors, more striking, tend to be a better idea. Reds are particularly provocative; the blues provide greater visibility. It really is your decision. The changes are instantaneous, so take advantage and try all you want until you find a color that works for you.
Note that there are many applications that also allow you to change your individual color settings. So, if you find the perfect combination of dark mode and an emphasis color, but it doesn't look good in any application, you can fix it. Go to the specific settings of that app and explore the options to change the theme or color.
Additional tip: put Microsoft Office in dark mode
If you work a lot in Office and you would like to obscure it too, we have good news: you can!
First, go to the File tab and choose Options. Make sure you are in the General section. In the middle of this section, say that it says Customize the copy of Microsoft Office.
In this section, one of the last options is Office Theme. Change it to Black. Ready!
