The first Samsung Unpacked of 2020 will take place in the city of San Francisco on February 11th. The South Korean company is expected to be known, as in previous years, the next generation of the Galaxy S family, which on this occasion adopt the name of Galaxy S20, according to the latest rumors and leaks.
Despite the fact that the presentation ceremony has not been officially held, the wealthy information and leaks rook that has shaken the technology industry over the past few months already allows a fairly detailed sketch to be drawn on how to be the new generation of the Galaxy S family. This is all what is known, rumored and expected on Galaxy S20, Galaxy S20 Plus and Galaxy S20 Ultra.

Samsung Galaxy S20 and Galaxy S20 Plus: safe options
Samsung Galaxy S20 Source: Roland Quandt (WinFuture)
The Galaxy S20 family, as on previous occasions, have two different versions: Galaxy S20 and Galaxy S20 Plus. This year, that is, the differences between the two models will be smaller than on previous occasions. It is expected that these two models will only differ by the size of their screen, the capacity of the battery and the inclusion of a ToF camera in the rear region. Everything else, in principle, be exactly the same between both teams.
The design of the new generation will be characterized mainly by three changes:
- The screen will be slightly higher when adopting a 20: 9 format. The previous generation had a 19.5: 9 format.
- The perforation of the screen is placed in the center, just like the Galaxy Note 10.
- The photographic module adopts a rectangular arrangement and is chosen towards the left side, a location similar to that observable in the iPhone 11 Pro and the Pixel 4. In the case of the Galaxy S20 Plus, it should be slightly wider, because it should make room for the ToF sensor
Another important change, according to XDA-Developers, it is the curvature of the screen, which in the case of the Galaxy S20 be much more subtle than in previous generations. This trend could already be observed in the Galaxy S10 whose screen according to a radius of curvature smaller than that of previous models, but the company would have decided to take it one step further with the new generation.
The Galaxy S20 and Galaxy S20 Plus will also be the first family models to say goodbye to Jack of headphones, an element that Samsung defended in recent years despite the push of the rest of the industry. This step, although new for the Galaxy S family, is not surprising, since Samsung has already taken a similar step with the Galaxy Note 10.

As far as the screen is concerned, the new Galaxy S20 and Galaxy S20 Plus will make use of the Dynamic AMOLED technology introduced with the previous generation. It is likely that the company has made minor improvements in aspects such as color accuracy or brightness, but no substantial changes are expected in terms of image quality.
If there will be major changes, however, in regards to the refresh rate of the panel, which will be able to reach up to 120 Hz. This functionality, as products such as the OnePlus 7 Pro or iPad Pro have already shown, makes any movement that takes place on the screen more fluid and consistent, creating a very pleasant sensation for the human eye. This, together with the new range of processors (Exynos 990 or Snapdragon 865, depending on the market), the high amount of RAM (12 GB) and UFS 3.0 type memory (faster in writing speed and reading refers), promises to significantly improve the user experience of the new Galaxy S20 and Galaxy S20 Plus.
The high refresh rate, however, It can only be activated when the graphic interface resolution is rendered in Full HD + parameter that Samsung sets by default in all models of the Galaxy S family for years. Those who want the phone to render the user interface at the maximum possible resolution (QHD +), probably have to give up at 120 Hz.

In the photographic field, the Galaxy S20 and Galaxy S20 Plus will offer a practically identical experience. Both will ride a 12 megapixel main sensor with 1.8 micron pixels, which will significantly help in the capture of light in bright environments. They will also have a 12-megapixel resolution wide-angle camera and a third 64-megapixel sensor that, together with a specific lens, will allow you to make a zoom three times peak and hybrid up to 30.
In the case of the Galaxy S20 Plus, in addition to the three cameras already mentioned, Samsung will mount a ToF camera which allows measuring distances with greater precision and generating very useful depth maps for specific functions such as portrait mode (which Samsung calls "Dynamic Focus").
Samsung commercialize variants with 5G of all the Galaxy S20, according to the most recent leaks.
These new cameras can be accompanied, according to XDA-Developers, from new image processing algorithms an aspect in which the most recent generations of the Galaxy S family showed some room for improvement over the competition. Samsung is also expected to incorporate new shooting and video recording modes, including a system called Pro Video which will allow you to adjust more advanced parameters such as exposure or ISO.
As expected in 2020, All models of the Galaxy S20 family will have 5G connectivity, although it is unknown, for the moment, what variants will reach each market. It is possible that the South Korean company will only take the versions with this connection to the regions that already have compatible networks or in which they expect a massive ignition of the 5G infrastructure during the next months.
Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra: thinking of the most demanding

In addition to the usual Galaxy S20 and Galaxy S20 Plus, Samsung is expected to present an even more advanced version of this new family. Its name, according to the most recent leaks, is Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra, and will have some notable differences from the rest of the versions:
- It will mount up to 16 GB of RAM.
- Your screen will have a size of 6.9 inches.
- The battery will have a capacity of 5,000 mAh.
The most important change, however, will be related to the photographic field. The Galaxy S20 Ultra will distance itself from other models with a set of sensors more advanced than those of the other models:
- 40 megapixel front camera.
- 108 megapixel main camera.
- 48-megapixel telephoto camera capable of performing a 10x optical zoom, 30x hybrid and 100x digital magnification.
- Wide angle camera with a 12 megapixel sensor.
- ToF camera to measure distances and generate depth maps.
What prices will the Galaxy S20 have?

The price is one of the biggest unknowns of the new Galaxy S20 family. Various sources agree that the Price structure be very close to that of the Galaxy S10, so most models will range between 800 and 1,100 euros. The only model that will leave this structure, yes, will be the Galaxy S20 Ultra, which will be sold for a figure, according to the most recent leaks, between 1,300 and 1,400 euros.
The known leaker Roland Quandt, finally, says that the three models will arrive in stores on March 13, almost a month after its official presentation. This also affirms that Samsung offers, as a temporary promotion, some Galaxy Buds + completely free to those who make the reservation of any of the new models.
Samsung Galaxy S20 series pre-orders will include the Galaxy Buds + in Europe, too. If you pre-order until (including) March 8 2020, you'll receive the new wireless buds for free (MSRP supposedly 169.99 Euro).
