Qualcomm has announced three new chipset models for the mid-range and input categories. They are about Snapdragon 720G, Snapdragon 662 and Snapdragon 460.
Snapdragon 720G (SM7125)
The Snapdragon 720G is the successor of Snapdragon 710 and Snapdragon 712. It is manufactured at 8 nm and has eight cores in a 2 + 6 arrangement. There are 2 Kryo 465 performance cores that are based on Cortex-A76 with a frequency of 2.3 GHz. Then we have 6 Kryo 260 efficiency cores (based on Cortex-A55) with a 1.8 GHz speed.
We know that the letter "G" does reference to gaming in Qualcomm and Mediatek processors. The G in the name of the Qualcomm model implies that the processor includes the Qualcomm Elite Gaming featuressuch as HDR games, Qualcomm aptX Adaptive audio cdec and more fluid graphics performance.
It has the same Adreno 618 GPU present from Snapdragon 730. This GPU offers support for OpenGL ES 3.2 and Vulkan 1.1. Has a new DSP Hexagon 692 and a ISP Spectra 350L. For connectivity, there is a Snapdragon X15 LTE modem with maximum speeds of download up to 800Mbps. Also has Bluetooth 5.1 (aptX Adaptive Audio), WiFi 6 and support for USB 3.1. Qualcomm has also added support for Dual Frequency GNSS (L1 + L5) and support for NavIC from India
The Snapdragon 720G supports UFS 2.1 storage and a maximum of 8 GB of RAM. It has a maximum support of 2520 x 1080 pixel resolution at 90Hz or 120Hz with HDR10. It is also compatible with Quick Charge 4.
Snapdragon 662 (SM6115)
This model is found between the Snapdragon 660 and the Snapdragon 665. Qualcomm says it's the first of the Snapdragon 6xx series to support image storage in HEIF format. This allows higher quality photos at half the size.
The new SoC is a 11 nm processor with 8 Kryo 260 cores (based on Cortex-A73) with a clock frequency of 2 GHz. It comes with a Adreno 610 GPU, a Hexagon DSP AIE 683 and an image seal processor (ISP) Spectra 340T.
Admits Full HD + screens (2220 x 1080 pixels) only at 60Hz. It is also compatible with emmC and UFS 2.1 storage. There's a Snapdragon X11 LTE modem with downlink speeds of up to 390Mbps and uplink speeds of up to 150Mbps. It also has support for WiFi 6, Bluetooth 5.1, dual frequency GPS and NavIC. It is compatible with technologyQuick Charge 3.0.
Snapdragon 460 (SM4250-AA)
This model is manufactured in 11nm and has 8 Kryo 240 cores synchronized to 1.8GHz. It incorporates a Adreno 610 GPU with support for Vulkan 1.1. Qualcomm says it provides a 70% increase in performance compared to the previous generation (Snapdragon 450).
There is support for screens with a maximum resolution of 2220 x 1080 pixels and one 60Hz refresh rate. It is also compatible with eMMC and UFS storage 2.1. Have a DSP Hexagon 683 AIE and an ISP Spectra 340 with support for capturing HEIF photos.
The Snapdragon 460 is the first 400 series processor that has FastConnect 6100 from Qualcomm. This provides better performance and better autonomy in connectivity. It's compatible with WiFi-6, Bluetooth 5.1, and also has a Snapdragon X11 LTE modem with the same loading and unloading speeds as the Snapdragon 662. It offers Dual frequency GPS and the NavIC satellite of India system. The chipset is compatible with Quick Charge 3.0.
