LAS VEGAS.- Foldables PCs. As Intel present at its conference at the fair
CES 2020 to a new family of teams that integrate their technology
Basically it is an idea proposed by different cell phone companies such as
Samsung, Huawei and Motorola in which
the screen is flexible. Thus, the equipment can be folded as in a conventional notebook, and by unfolding both covers using a hinge system, displaying an enlarged screen, with the advantage that it doubles in size without changing the overall volume of the equipment. .
It was almost at the end of his lecture that Intel presented this idea, which inaugurates a new segment of portable equipment. He did it by showing the new
Lenovo Thinkpad X1 Fold, a team that
I had already shown a year ago without giving more details and that, closed, looks like a good-sized notebook, but that when opened shows its unique folding screen, which can adopt different functions,
similar to Microsoft's Surface Neo.
In the demonstrations, the Thinkpad X1 Fold could display a large 13.3 "OLED screen (running Windows 10) to, for example, enjoy multimedia content, but, by adopting a traditional notebook configuration, the bottom of the screen It could be transformed into a keyboard or a tablet designed to draw and sketch concepts, that is, it is not a notebook in a classical sense, since it does not have a physical keyboard.
To end the demonstration, Lenovo's team adopted a vertical form with which its screen split to the middle formed a kind of electronic book reader in which two adjacent pages are seen simultaneously.
To these new specifications for folding or double screens of the Athena project, there was also a prototype of Dell that was shown during the conference, but which did not give more details.
More than fifty laptops

Beyond the conceptual change of these flexible PCs, Intel showed in its conference the potential of
Athena project. In 2020 alone, more than 50 portable models will be launched that respond to this platform, of which more than 20 of them were exposed on stage.
Another novelty announced was the presence of the Athena platform in the popular Chromebooks that use Google's operating system. Two models were promptly shown, the Asus Chromebook Flip C436 and Samsung's new Galaxy Chromebook.

Intel's Athena project seeks to improve the performance of portable devices that opt for this technology. Among other things they must comply with a series of features such as mounting a Core i 10 generation processor, starting in a matter of seconds (as in a smartphone) thanks to the combination of Optane memories with solid state disks (SSD) and ensuring a good battery performance including, at the same time, fast charging of only 30 minutes.

Intel also showed some new features of its new platform called Tiger Lake that double the graphics performance compared to the previous generation, in addition to including Core processors manufactured in 10 nm and Thunderbolt 4 port.
At the end of his conference and without giving too many details he announced his first discrete GPU called DG1 (that is, they are not the graphics chips integrated into the motherboard, but a board that can be installed on any PC). To test the potential of this new graphic solution, a demonstration was made with the game Destiny 2 which worked smoothly on the laptop in which it was running.
