Oscar 2020: Netflix monopolize more nominations than any study

With 24 nominations, Netflix became the main protagonist of the 92 Awards of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, surpassing traditional studios such as Disney (23) or Sony (20).

The streaming platform has had The Irish as its spearhead, with 10 applications, including Best Film, only one less than Joker.

With nine more nominations than at the 2019 Oscars, Netflix also added six with a Marriage Story, including Best Actor (Adam Driver) and Best Actress (Scarlett Johansson). Other of his nominated films were The Two Popes, I Lost My Body and Klaus.

We will have to wait for the ceremony scheduled for Sunday, February 9, 2020 at the Dolby Theater in Los Angeles if the applications are translated into awards, which did not happen in the Golden Globes, because it only won one of 16 (Laura Dern as Best Actress of Distribution by History of a marriage.

A triumph that Netflix can celebrate is having been the only streaming platform to receive nominations this time. Amazon Studios, which summed three statuettes in 2017 with Manchester by the sea and The salesman, remained with empty hands, despite the good critics of The aeronauts.
