Today, at the Product Communication Conference of MediaTek, the company has announced a new chipset: the MediaTek Dimensity 800. This new processor of the firm seems to be aimed at mid-range phones.

It has also been revealed that the smartphones that work with this MediaTek Dimensity 800 processor will reach the market in the second quarter of next year, that is, the second quarter of 2020. The chipset will be officially available in the first quarter of 2020.

While the company unveiled the new processor and took a look at a timeline for market availability, MediaTek has not yet revealed the full sheet of features and technical specifications that its new hardware presumes.

MediaTek Dimensity 800: a 5G chipset for the mid-range

The announcement of this new chipset comes a few weeks after MediaTek announced its Dimensity 1000 5G model, which marked the return of the company in the high-end segment after several years of absence, where it will face the new Snapdragon 865 from Qualcomm, Kirin 990/990 5G from Huawei and Exynos 990 from Samsung.

New hardware configuration

Although we do not have all the details of the chipset, if we have some small drops of information. The processor has four BIG cores based on Cortex-A77 high performance with a 2.6GHz clock speed Y four Cortex-A55 cores low energy consumption with a 2.2GHz clock speed. It comes with a double clutch arrangement, instead of the provisions of three clusters that we have been seeing in high-end processors such as the Kirin 990, the Snapdragon 865 and even the Exynos 990.

To handle the graphics comes with the new GPU Mali-G77 MP9. This is the same one found in Exynos 990, but with some less nuclei in the Mediatek. It comes with a Helio M70 5G modem integrated that saves space and is efficient at the same time. Mediatek promotes it as the fastest performance SoC in the world with downlink speeds of 4.7Gbps and uplink speed of 2.5Gbps. It also supports independent and non-independent 5G networks (Sa / NSA).

MediaTek Dimensity 1000L in OPPO Reno 3

It is confirmed that the future Oppo Reno3 comes with the MediaTek Dimensity 1000L 5G processor (MT6885). The result of benchmarks showed that the processor has a Mali-G77 GPU. We assume that it also has Cortex-A77 CPU cores like the Dimensity 1000 but at a lower clock speed. This model is Designed for the premium mid-range.

The first phones with the Dimensity 1000 5G chipset will be launched in the first quarter of 2020. First they will be seen in markets such as China and other Asian countries. Meanwhile the United States and the EU will receive them in the second half of 2020.
