Telefnica Espaa and the F.C. Barcelona took advantage of the Mobile World Congress framework to present the immersive reality 5G Stadium project. In a press conference where the president of F.C. Barcelona, Josep Maria Bartomeu, as well as the president of Telefnica Espaa, Emilio Gayo, gave this unprecedented announcement.

This allows Camp Nou to be the first stadium in the world with a 5G network. In addition, Bartomeu took the opportunity to emphasize that it is the largest stadium in Europe with a capacity for 90,000 spectators, and after remodeling, increase to 105,000. The project is called Espai Bara, but for now the Camp Nou enjoy the most advanced technology.

The 5G network will allow you to have an immersive reality experience, that is, fans will be able to see, through virtual reality glasses, football matches as if they were present in the stadium.

In Telefnica we are convinced that connectivity is the oxygen of the digital world. Attending a world-class soccer match live is a privilege that not everyone can enjoy, and this project allows us to dream about offering all our clients the possibility of experiencing sporting events of this magnitude on the front line, said Gayo, president of Telefnica Espaa.

For his part, the president of Bara, Bartomeu said that for FC Barcelona it is a great pride that the Camp Nou is the first football stadium with internal 5G coverage, we have put the Camp Nou as an innovation laboratory available to the most technology advanced in mobile phone, the 5G, recalc.

All these innovations are part of a major project called 5G Barcelona, which will put the City of Barcelona at the forefront of innovation.

The immersive reality can be achieved by locating 360 cameras in various places of the Camp Nou without the need for cables, which allows to broadcast an immersive experience to any spectator who is at home. With virtual reality glasses, the spectator can watch the game from La Llotja, next to the goalkeeper, near the benches or, in short, choose the point of view you want at any time, watching and hearing the match as if you were in the countryside.

We were impressed with the demonstration that Telefonica offered us after the press conference, since we could appreciate the Camp Nou live, that is, what it looks like at the time. Of course, the stadium was empty, but the experience was like being there. We are eager to test the technology during an F.C. Barcelona, since it feels like we are there.
