Performance, battery life and charge

Samsung Galaxy Tab S6 vs S4

The Samsung Galaxy Tab S4 has a Snapdragon 835 processor, which was the best chip available a couple of years ago. Galaxy Tab S5e has a newer chip, but it is a mid-range Snapdragon 670. In reality, there is very little difference in the performance of these processors, but the 835 will be faster in most circumstances: we are talking about about 20 percent according to the benchmarks. The Galaxy Tab S6 surpasses them with the Snapdragon 855, which offers 80 percent more processing power. The new tablet also promises faster graphics and has an optimized gaming interface. If you are going to use demanding applications or play many games, then S6 is the best option.

Both the standard S4 and S5e models come with 4 GB of RAM, but the Tab S5e has an advantage in multitasking thanks to the option of 6 GB of RAM. However, the Tab S6 wins again, with 6 GB or 8 GB of RAM, depending on the storage option you choose: 128 GB or 256 GB. All three have space for a MicroSD card that amples that storage space.

With a battery of more than 200 mAh additional capacity, the Tab S4 has a clear advantage in the autonomous section. All three can be quickly charged at a power of up to 18W, so there are no differences in charging speed. The Tab S6 wins here with a much faster processor, but the Tab S4 has the greatest autonomy.

Design and durability

All these tablets are cleverly designed and all have a touch of luxurious style, but there are a couple of reasons why we slightly prefer the Tab S5e and the Tab S6. First, because they are much thinner and lighter, which makes them easier to hold with just one hand. Secondly, both have a fingerprint sensor: the S5e has one on the side and the S6 low on the screen, which is practical and is something that most people are used to. The iris scanner of the Tab S4 is safer, but not as easy to use.

Samsung has also reduced the bezels a bit, so the two newer tablets are slimmer in all aspects. However, one thing you can't ignore with the newer tablets is the headphone jack, but that's the only design advantage that Tab S4 has. None of these tablets have special durability characteristics, so be careful when using them and you should probably consider a case. Nor do they incorporate water resistance, so keep them dry.

It is difficult to choose between the S5e and the S6 in this category, but the S6 obtains the advantage with a more interesting selection of colors and a better integration of accessories. The S Pen connects magically and there is a much improved keyboard case with a touch panel, although it is a very expensive extra at $ 179 dollars.

screen

The 10.5-inch Super AMOLED screen of the Galaxy Tab S4 is one of the best to find, so we are pleased to see exactly the same screen on the Tab S5e and on the Tab S6. The 2,560 x 1,600 pixel resolution is very sharp, with vibrant colors and great contrast. It is ideal for watching movies or TV shows, playing or just surfing the internet. All tablets are matched here.

Camera

While the competition to launch the best camera phone is fierce, this does not happen with tablets. That said, Tab S4 and Tab S5e have a respectable combination with a 13-megapixel main lens and an 8-megapixel front camera that is ideal for video conferencing. The Tab S6 causes the photos to level up with a dual-lens main camera, which combines a 13-megapixel lens with a secondary wide angle of 5 megapixels, which offers a field of view of 123 degrees. It also has an 8 megapixel front camera.

Software and updates

The Samsung Galaxy Tab S6 and Tab S5e were released with Android 9.0 Pie integrated and the Galaxy Tab S4 has been recently updated to Android 9.0 Pie. They all have the Samsung One user interface at the top, which offers a number of extras, including support for DeX mode, which turns your tablet into an impromptu desktop, Bixby voice assistant and much more. Unfortunately, Samsung is not the fastest in updating its devices, but we expect the schedule of updates to be quite similar for these tablets.

Special features

For the most part, these tablets are the same, but there is a prominent feature that only Tablets S4 and S6 have: the S Pen. If you like to use a touch pen, take handwritten notes or draw on your tablet, then the S Pen is a great reason to choose the Galaxy Tab S6 instead of the Tab S5e. The new S Pen that comes with the Tab S6 also offers remote control functionality and charges wirelessly. If you want a tablet to work as a laptop, then Tab S6 also offers an improved version of DeX, and the Book Cover keyboard has new function keys and a touch panel.
