My iPhone says invalid SIM card: so you can fix it

All iPhone models are compatible with this tutorial. Therefore, you can follow the steps on the iPhone 6 and 6s (including Plus models), iPhone 7, iPhone 8 and 8 Plus, iPhone X, Xr, Xs and Xs Max or even on the new iPhone 11, 11 Pro and 11 Pro Max. Of course, depending on the iOS version, the settings may be in a different location. In this case I have followed the steps in iOS 13, and versions like iOS 12 or even iOS 11, have the same settings.

First, check if there is any software update available, since if your SIM is new you may need the latest version of iOS. To update, go to Settings> General> Software update. As a second option, restart your iPhone or iPad. Just press and hold the power and volume + button and slide to turn off. Then, press the power button until the screen appears. Finally, re-enter the SIM PIN and check if the message appears. In many cases it is necessary to restart the terminal so that the operator settings are activated and everything works correctly.

Remove the SIM from the tray and reinsert it. It is likely that you have inserted the SIM card incorrectly, and this will not be detected by the system. Make sure if the pins that appear at the bottom are in good condition. Also if you use some type of adapter or have an irregular cut. In this case, it is best to ask for a new card.

SIM card not valid with Vodafone, Movistar, Orange or other operators

This message may appear due to problems with the operator. It may be because the SIM card is still not active, or even the operator has not yet connected the mobile line. To do this, contact your operator’s customer service and check that your line or your SIM card is already activated. If you are using an eSIM, you may have to call your operator to tell them the number of the digital card and activate the line.

Check that the network settings are those of your operator and are up to date. If you have entered a new SIM from another company, the new settings may not have been downloaded. This creates a conflict in the system that makes the SIM card not recognized on the iPhone. To check if the network settings match those of your operator, go to Settings> information. See the network and operator information. If you are from Vodafone you will have to put ‘Vodafone ES’. If you have an OMV, such as O2, Movistar is likely to appear. In any case, you also have to check for operator updates available. These appear in the System Settings, in the information section. If there is no type of notice, you have no updates available.

Reset your device to factory settings. Not without making a backup before. If after performing these steps the message still appears, check if it also appears with other cards. If you don’t have it, call your operator and ask them to enter one to see if it is a device error. As a last option, take the iPhone to technical service, as it may be a device hardware error.
