Photography on mobile phones is supported by several aspects, some hardware and others software. Google is the company that puts more effort into improving the second and that we see in functions such as HDR +, a technique that opened with the Nexus and that has been improving little by little.
Now this function We can use it on mobile phones such as the Xiaomi Mi 8 or PocoPhone F1 thanks to a modification of the APK of this camera that they have made in the Russian BSG forum.
The modification has been designed for the Xiaomi Mi 8 but it has been proven that it also works on the PocoPhone F1 when sharing hardware and we have tested it on the Xiaomi Mi 8 SE, where it has also worked.
The best HDR, now in Xiaomi
This camera has some advanced features like the portrait mode both in the rear camera and in the front although it is in HDR + mode where there are more improvements.
This function shoots no less than 10 shots of the same photo with different exposures to achieve the most realistic result possible.
The modification is based on the Google Camera app in its version 5.1.018 and to install it we simply have to download the APK and install it on our mobile manually.
As you can see, various texts appear in the lower part of the camera interface. If you want it not to be so, that they do not appear, you can check the camera.af.debug.show option in the development settings section of the camera app itself.
What works and what doesn't in this app
As in any modification, there are functions that give some problems although the main ones operate correctly. In the PocoPhone F1 photo options are operational with portrait mode both front and rear, video recording or HDR + mode.
However, there are faults with the slow motion, ZSL and burst shooting options. We have also verified that although the app marks Live Photos or photos with motion as active, they do not work.
Google's secret weapon to continue reigning in the mobile photography
Google has become the king of mobile photography in the last year. Although we already know many details of Pixel 3, they still have a secret weapon.
In the Xiaomi Mi 8 SE that we have used for the tests we have seen that the same things work as in the PocoPhone although when it makes use of the HDR + we see that the processing of the photography is somewhat slow, perhaps because it is designed for the Visual Core chip of the Pixel.
