Samsung is still betting on the latest generation tablets and having been the undisputed winner of the market last year with its Galaxy Tab S, now the Korean He has presented the successor to his star line:This is the Galaxy Tab S2, which comes in two sizes: 8 and 9.7 inches.
After a first contact with the Galaxy Tab S2, the first thing we can comment on is that it is an improved version of its predecessor in all aspects, but one of the biggest attractions of the Galaxy Tab S2 is its new format. Yes, Samsung has continued with the strategy of the Galaxy Tab A, so it has created these tablets in a 4: 3 format, ideal for those who use it for reading and browsing.
Although this change in format has made the Galaxy Tab S2 look a lot like Apple's iPad Air 2 series, these devices also offer new specifications in terms of design, software and hardware. Discover in detail what it is.
Both the Galaxy Tab S2 8-inch and 9.7 are smaller than its predecessors that were 9.7 and 10.5 inches respectively. The new equipment is also thinner and lighter: they are only 5.6 mm thick and weigh 389 and 265 grams, depending on the size.
With the change in size, there is also a change in resolution. The Galaxy Tab S2 have a Super AMOLED display with a resolution of 2048 x 1536 pixels, compared to the 2560 x 1600 pixels of the previous version.
As for the design of the equipment, the use of a plastic rear panel, instead of a metal or glass panel, suggests that the equipment is not as high quality as others, however, the Galaxy Tab S2 they are far from being devices in bad taste. These tablets have a metal frame to protect against bumps and although they are quite thin it is not possible to bend or flex them.
Despite the low resolution (low only in comparison with previous models), this does not represent any problem for viewing text, photos and videos. The content looks perfectly fine and sharp from any angle and the colors look vibrant, qualities they offer thanks to Samsung's Super AMOLED displays.
Software & Hardware
The new Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 has an Exynos 5433 eight-core processor, four at a speed of 1.9GHz and the other four at 1.3GHz. Also incorporate an internal memory of 32 or 64GB and a 3GB RAM, an amount that although on paper might seem small compared to what the latest Korean smartphones have, is fast enough to open and run multiple applications. These teams run with Android 5.0.2 Lollipop.
A great addition of these computers are Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel and PowerPoint. Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 tablets come with a year of subscribing to Office 365, offering useful improvements for users.
With regard to the cameras, in the Galaxy Tab S2 we find a main 8MP, with which you can get sharp images even in low light as promised by the manufacturer and also allows the recording of 2K videos. Although the front camera is only 2.1MP, the images achieved are much brighter than those obtained with webcams.
One of the novelties of the Galaxy Tab S2 is the incorporation of a fingerprint sensor, integrated into the start button of the devices. This sensor allows users to unlock the tablet with a single press, in addition to working as an excellent security measure.
Price and availability
Galaxy Tab S2 will be available in Spain from September 3, 2015, with PVPR of 499 euros the version of 9,7 with Wi-Fi and 599 euros the 4G version; while Galaxy Tab S2 8-inch will be marketed in 399euros the WiFi version and 499euros the 4G version.
The keyboard cover of the Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 will start selling in Spain from October for a price of 170 euros for the 9.7-inch version, while for now the arrival of this accessory for the version is not confirmed of the Galaxy Tab S2 8 inches.
Now, the keyboard cover of the Galaxy Tab S2 has its pros and cons: on the one hand it offers ergonomics and ease of use of the tablet in content editing tasks, for example, since it is a keyboard with good touch feel and usability that resembles the keyboards of conventional laptops.
But as a negative point it has to imply an increase in weight of the tablet by almost double … and that carries batteries for what needs to be charged, but does not offer more autonomy to the tablet. So like everything else, it has its positive point and its negative point.
Samsung seems to have done a great job creating the perfect successors to the Galaxy Tab S. The new Galaxy Tab S2, in its two sizes,They are excellent mobile terminals with great features. While it is true that the cameras could have been much better, their great performance, attractive display and great design are the perfect ingredients for a great team. And in regards to its resemblance to the iPad Air 2, only time will tell us if Samsung has really manufactured a true adversary for Apple's precious device.
