Let's go one by one, elucidating what it offers the most and, above all, how it differs more from the other models.
Xiaomi Mi 8 standard: the most accessible
We start with the original, the genuine, the black leg He Xiaomi Mi 8 original. This phone was presented at the end of May and is the main version that can be officially purchased in our country. It has a 6.2-inch AMOLED panel, 3D facial recognition and part with MIUI 10, Just like everyone else Mi.
The main point he shares with 3 of the 5 models is his processor: the Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 next to the Adreno 630 GPU. A top-of-the-line device that will give it absolutely everything in terms of power. The official prices in Xiaomi Spain are 499 euros and 529 euros respectively, although of course they can be found cheaper as at 429 and 470.
Being the base model, this is the center of the differences with its rivals of the same family. We will see that My others will change important details, such as memories mainly or things like the fingerprint reader.
Xiaomi Mi 8 Explorer Edition: with fingerprint reader on screen and somewhat misleading
We go with the next one, the Xiaomi Mi 8 Explorer Edition. This phone is an even more exclusive version of the Mi standard, which has 2 differential details and that makes it more expensive: that it has the bare back (although it is a sticker) and that it has fingerprint reader on screen.
Also, we can only find it in a memory variant, 128 GB of internal memory and 8 GB of RAM. This is, along with the Mi 8 Pro, the only model that reaches 8 GB of RAM. Otherwise, it is exactly the same phone in terms of features. Although its official price is 495 euros, the pages have it more expensive because it is an exclusive version.
Xiaomi Mi 8 SE: a cropped version but not so much
This Xiaomi Mi 8 SE is undoubtedly the most different of all, since on the one hand it has a quite different hardware than the base model but on the other it has a hardware that places it in a ranking higher than the average range of Android.
Analysis of the Xiaomi Mi 8 SE: the evolution of the Xiaomi Mi A1
We analyze the new Xiaomi Mi 8 SE, a terminal that fits into the family of the high-end of the Chinese manufacturer but has a great price.
We change processor to Qualcomm Snapdragon 710, evolution of the Snapdragon 660. A medium-high-end chip that defeats certain Snapdragon of the 800 range like the 820, so it will give us more than superior performance. Another of the big changes is taken by the memories, which become 64 + 4 GB / 64 + 6 GB.
In addition, the edges of the phone are more square and not as rounded. This is the most noticeable change in design, without being something especially differential. The cameras hit a small downgrade, going from a combination of 12 + 12 Mpx to 12 + 5 Mpx. In addition, the battery decreases to 3120 mAh with fast charging.
The funny thing about this device is that it is a bit more expensive than the Xiaomi Mi 8 Lite, presented today, but It has a very hardware top. We can find this Xiaomi Mi 8 SE at a cost around 250 euros depending on where we buy the device. A totally overwhelming cost that makes it, for some, the true successor of the Xiaomi Mi A2.
Xiaomi Mi 8 Pro: the most striking and brother of Explorer Edition
This variant, along with the Mi 8 Lite, has been presented today. Let's put it briefly: it is a Xiaomi Mi 8 Explorer Edition more accessible and above all, with the same design of the Mi 8. Inherits its great function, that of the fingerprint reader under the screen. For the rest, it shares the same hardware as the Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 and the same camera, in addition to the same screen.
On the other hand, we have almost exact memories to those of the Mi 8 Explorer Edition. The detail that stands out without a doubt is in the design, since we have a new, pink yellow color with a spectacular gradient like the one you will see in the following image.
It complements the Mi 8 Explorer Edition being with it the highest version of the company's original device. It has been presented today, and the prices have been according to their memories. Although for now this Mi 8 Pro will stay in China, it would not be strange if it arrived in our country:
- Xiaomi Mi 8 Pro 6/128: 399 euros to change (3199 yuan).
- Xiaomi Mi 8 Pro 8/128: 448 euros to change (3599 yuan).
Xiaomi Mi 8 Lite: the "cropped version"
We finish with the Xiaomi Mi 8 Lite, the version that undoubtedly has more differences with the others in its family. A phone that changes in almost everything, and as the name implies, is the most "short" version of the family. We put the quotes because if you look closely at your hardware, we will see really amazing things.
To start, we place ourselves in the processor Qualcomm Snapdragon 660. A chip that has been tested a lot and that has positioned itself as perhaps the best mid-range processor in the market. Not for nothing should have been a Snapdragon of the 700 range, but for reasons of time it could not be. Come on, this «Lite» will have a performance more than appropriate for everyone.
We lose 50 mAh against the original Mi 8, and we are left with the same double camera as the Xiaomi Mi 8 SE. But besides having less notch, we have the same gradient color of the Xiaomi Mi 8 Pro, both in a violet blue that reminds us of Honor as a beautiful pink yellow.
Even in memories we are served! We have a combination that looks like this: 64 + 4 GB / 64 + 6 GB / 128 + 6 GB. The body is glazed, and it is clear to us that Xiaomi has a concept of «Lite» quite different from what we think about these lands. A small but bully phone, and that in the rest of things it shares characteristics.
Like the Xiaomi Mi 8 Pro, this will stay for now in China. But it is not surprising that he could reach Spanish lands. If the other devices have an absurd value for money, this is even more daring with prices that will leave you with your mouth open:
- Xiaomi Mi 8 Lite 4/64 GB: 174 euros to change (1399 yuan).
- Xiaomi Mi 8 Lite 6/64 GB: 212 euros to change (1699 yuan).
- Xiaomi Mi 8 Lite 6/128 GB: 249 euros to change (1999 yuan).
It remains to be seen if this evolution of the Mi family will do well for Xiaomi. The catalog of devices that it has is huge, and possibly a buyer could be overwhelmed by so much variety. Or will this be the definitive advertising method for the firm? We will check it from here at a time.
