Most manufacturers like to show off how light or thin their laptops are. After all, they must face an increasingly competitive and diverse market, with hundreds of tablets and 2-in-1 threatening their market share. But beyond marketing, what are really the lightest laptops on the market?
According to our experience, the Acer Swift 7 is the lightest laptop of the moment. However, it is not the only one, so we add other laptops that exceed the limit when it comes to losing weight. If you decide to choose one of these alternatives, you just have to consider that generally the reduction of grams always implies some compromises in terms of cooling, assembly quality or the capacity of the battery.
Acer Swift 7, the lightest laptop
The Acer Swift 7 laptop is not the fastest, but it uses a low-power Y-series CPU of the eighth generation whose goal is to reduce heat and save battery. Among the modifications with which it manages to be very thin and light are to provide the capacity of the battery with only 32 watt-hours and use very light materials although a little more flexible than usual. But what it does well is keep the weight down. With a very complete configuration thanks to a Core i7-8500Y processor, 16 GB of RAM, a 512 GB PCIe solid state drive (SSD) and a 14-inch touch screen, the Swift 7 weighs only 1.96 pounds. In addition, it is only 0.39 inches thick, which makes it the thinnest touch screen notebook.
The LG Gram 15 notebook weighs only 2.42 pounds despite its 15-inch screen, which makes it exceptionally light for its size. The 13.3-inch version further reduces the weight, to just 2.13 pounds. Although the resolution of the 1080p screen does not match that of the XPS 13, MacBook and other computers, it is still reasonably sharp. The useful life of the battery is good, but it is not excellent in any aspect, although it is still the lighter 15-inch laptop that you will find in the market.
Samsung Notebook 9
Although not oriented to the use of the touch pen as its companion range, the Notebook 9 Pen, the Samsung Notebook 9 is an extremely light and portable laptop. The last version is not as light as the previous one, which only weighed 1.8 pounds, but is still light with 2.2 pounds and an eighth-generation Core i5-8250U processor, 8 GB of RAM and 256 GB of PCIe SSD. Part of the extra weight comes from the 75 watt-hour capacity of your battery, so it is more likely to last a full day's work. It also has a large selection of ports, so it is incredibly functional considering its small size. Its display quality is also excellent.
Acer Swift 5
The Acer Swift 7 is not the only lightweight portable in its range. The Swift 5 also underwent a diet, weighing only 2.2 pounds with a 15.6-inch Full HD screen. The components are perfect for performance and productivity, thanks to a Core i5-8265U, 8GB of RAM, and a 256GB PCIe SSD. Again, it is the materials used that contribute to the low weight, including a magnesium and lithium alloy used in the chassis that keeps the notebook light. It offers 54 watt-hours of battery, which allows you to work throughout the day. And you won't pay too much for all this, depending on the configuration.
Asus ZenBook 3 Deluxe
The Asus ZenBook 3 Deluxe is one of the lightest 14-inch laptops in the world with only 2.4 pounds and yet it comes with an impressive range of hardware within its elegant chassis. Along with its 14-inch and 1080P display, it has an 8th Generation Core i7 CPU, up to 16GB of RAM and 512GB of solid state storage. Its price has fallen significantly since it was first introduced, so it is even a bargain. It is a bit deficient in terms of ports, although it comes with a multiport adapter to make it more compatible.
Special mention: Microsoft Surface Pro 6 ($ 700 dollars)
The Surface Pro 6 is not technically a laptop, it is a hybrid tablet, but it is as functional as a laptop. If what you are looking for is true lightness, it is at least worth mentioning. The hybrid tablets do not meet all the requirements of the lightest laptops, and if we had to include them in this list they will be nothing more than the Surface and iPad Pro. We have to mention the hybrid devices because they are a good option if you have little space and you need a relatively simple machine that is easy to transport. If you are looking for this, this Surface Pro is one of the best. With 1.70 pounds at its maximum weight (or 2.4 pounds with the case included), it has a 12-inch screen with a resolution of 2,736 x 1,824, Windows 10 and the possibility of choosing different configurations, from an Intel i7 processor to 16 GB of RAM And it is not expensive either. The Surface Go model is even smaller and lighter, weighs only 1.1 pounds.
