The word Roomba has become synonymous with vacuum robots. And for a good reason. Although more frequently we see the emergence of many autonomous vacuum cleaners at convenient prices and with high quality, the Roomba line from iRobot remains unbeatable. We review dozens of models to discover what is the best Roomba you can choose, according to your needs and budget.
Note: Most Roomba models come with a couple of different kit options to choose from if you want to add additional filters or brushes to your package.
iRobot Roomba S9 +
The Roomba S9 +, the latest addition to the iRobot line and which received an Editor?s Choice Award from Digital Trends, has its origins in the improvements introduced to the Roomba i7 + of 2018. Like that model, the S9 is available with or without the Clean Base charging station and the automatic dust emptying container.
It has a new D-shape design, plus an improved brush that promises superior cleaning at edges and corners and a vacuum forty times greater than the Roomba 600 series. Another advantage is the smart mapping, which allows you to choose certain rooms for cleaning, as well as full floors. According to iRobot, it also incorporates the first antiallergic system for vacuum robots and was designed to trap dust and pollen.
iRobot Roomba 960
The Roomba 960 model offers the optimal point between Roomba's features and prices, allowing you to have an intelligent cleaning robot with an average price (medium within the Roombas range, of course). The model includes the iRobot three-stage suction and brushing system, equipped with rubber brushes designed to clean both hard floors and low carpets. The brushes flex to make sure they are always at ground level, and the suction system is five times more powerful than the older Roomba models. The filter catches 99 percent of the dust and allergens (although it is convenient to always have some replacement filters on hand if you use your Roomba frequently).
While Roomba incorporates a lot of intelligent features to navigate, including the self-recharging of your battery in 75 minutes, it also comes with a device that allows you to create a virtual barrier that you can configure to divide specific spaces into which you don't want the robot to aspire. Programming through the Roomba application is excellent, but you can also choose to give voice commands if you have an Echo device at home.
iRobot Roomba i7 +
The robot vacuum cleaner Roomba i7 + gan in 2018 Editor?s Choice award Digital Trends. Despite the time and the arrival of Roomba S9 + in 2019, it is still an excellent alternative. It was the first robot vacuum that introduced an automatic emptying dust container, in addition to intelligent room mapping, an advanced engine with improved succin, more durable brushes and a new processor. If you choose the alternative with the Clean Base charging station, you will have to add the dust bags to your shopping list. Despite this, the i7 + is a worthwhile investment if you are looking to fully automate the tasks of vacuuming your home.
iRobot Roomba 614
If you like the idea of ??a robot vacuuming Roomba in your home, but the price of the leading models of iRobot push you away, there is an alternative for you. Priced below $ 300, the Roomba 614 offers a powerful set of features. Of course, you will have to make some sacrifices. The brushes and sensor navigation allow the device to clean your home autonomously, but the suction power is significantly lower, so it is not the best alternative for carpets. Another disadvantage is that it lacks control of the application and integration with Alexa or Google Assistant.
iRobot Roomba 980
Although Roomba 980 was discontinued, you can still find it in some stores. It is a more advanced version with better features than the 960. The extra large battery lasts up to 120 minutes, which makes it a suitable option for larger spaces. The cleaning system also has a power that doubles the work of 960, ideal if your pet usually scatters his food or boots regularly. The model includes smart front-line functions, including voice recognition, application control and dirt detection technology.
iRobot Roomba E5
The Roomba e5 model is particularly good at picking up pet hair, as it combines powerful suction with rubber brushes that can easily clean carpets or hardwood. It also comes with some of Roomba's latest technologies, including automatic recharge, a complete set of sensors and compatibility with Alexa and Google Assistant. This is even more interesting if you consider that it has a very reasonable price to be a Roomba model. The battery lasts about 90 minutes on a hard surface. If you have pets and a lot of hardwood that you want to keep clean, this is an excellent and economical model.
iRobot Braava Jet m6
The Braava 380t and the entry level Braava Jet 240 were the first raids of iRobot in the mopping autonomous floors and had an excellent reception, although it was necessary to regularly fill in the cleaning solution and demand some additional work to configure the NorthStar navigation cubes. But the Braava Jet m6 solves some of these inconveniences.
It offers a new design, improved maps and navigation technology with individual room selection, as well as superior cleaning of edges and corners. The Braava Jet m6 also detects when it drains its battery, returns to its charger and then resumes mopping from the last position. It also has control from the application and support for Alexa and Google Assistant. If you have a Roomba i7 or an S9, you can configure your robot army for cleaning in sequence, vacuuming and then scrubbing. While this model supports wet mopping such as dry sweeping, you should regularly invest in disposable iRobot cleaning pads for a better result.
Lawnmower iRobot Terra
Although this guide focuses primarily on floor cleaning, this iRobot robotic lawnmower deserves a mention. Terra Mower is easy to set up and operate, using wireless beacons and smart print maps to recognize your garden, and then cut the lawn in an efficient round-trip pattern.
It is able to avoid obstacles and can create a system of limits without wires. This means that you can tell him where to cut and where he shouldn't do it, without installing cable systems or boundary lines. Terra Mower will be on sale as a beta program in 2019 in the United States and Germany, but if you're lucky you should be able to buy it in 2020.
