Charging the mobile in the car is not a good idea, and we explain why

A situation that you have probably experienced: you travel by car and your mobile phone has a low battery. As usual, we make the decision to connect the mobile via USB so that it charges while driving. You will have chosen it on occasion, but the reality is that you should do it as little as possible.

It is a practice that is not too beneficial. How is this possible to happen? We explain it to you below.

Charge the mobile in the car

Charging your mobile in the car, using the USB in it, is not good for the phone. The reason for this is that the USB port of the car we gives less electricity than our phone needs to load At least it is so in most cases. This causes the mobile to consume energy at a faster rate than the capacity of said USB port in the car.

The above gives rise to several situations. It can cause the phone stop charging, It may have happened to you on occasion, or it may be blocked. In any case, neither of these two situations is positive for the mobile, due to the consequences it may have.

Many of the cars have a USB 1.0 or USB 2.0 standard (on those newer models, they may have USB 3.0). In the case of the former, a current of 0.5 amps is requested. That is why, compared to the current intensity of current chargers, it is not surprising that the mobile charges slowly in the car.

This is even more evident in fast charging because a higher intensity is required to charge the mobile. In this case, it moves in values between two and three amps. If the car gives us a current of 0.5 amps, we see that more energy is being spent than it enters. Which means that the phone is downloading.

Why does this happen? The main reason is that the USB connector that we have in the car is usually destined for devices that barely consume, how can a USB stick be. For this type of devices, 0.5 amps are more than enough to be able to work, but when connecting a mobile charger, the situation changes since this amperage is insufficient.

In addition, this practice It is not only harmful to the mobile, also the car can be a victim. The problem in the case of the car is the battery: it could cause damage to the car battery if you charge the devices by having it parked. Although there are a number of factors that influence this case.

On the one hand, it depends on the car model we have, in some it is more likely that there is a failure or problem with the battery. It is also necessary to take into account the age of said vehicle: it can be especially problematic to do this in a car that is older since the mobile could consume a large amount of energy directly from the battery. The phone model also influences.

Can we charge the mobile using the car's USB?

If on any occasion you have to resort to the USB of your car to charge the mobile, nothing bad will happen to us either: it can happen to all of us that we run out of battery and have to resort to this option. But it is important that this practice does not become commonplace.

In addition, if we want to avoid these problems, the best option is the lighter chargers, as we already told you. If you don't want to run out of battery on your mobile throughout the day, a portable charger is always a good option to consider.
