Flipkart has announced that it has established a strategic partnership with Nokia to launch smart TVs with the Nokia brand in India. The company claims that the e-commerce platform, apart from the distribution, will also be responsible for manufacturing smart TVs in the country.
The company is also responsible for promotions and product development backed by smart TV research. Flipkart has said it has conducted a market investigation to determine the characteristics of the Nokia TV range, which include the addition of audio systems with JBL technology.
This is a provision similar to the one Nokia has signed with HMD Global for its smart phones. Nokia licensed its name to Flipkart to manufacture and sell its televisions for a fee. Details about the agreement are currently scarce.
To remember, Nokia entered the line of screen TVs in the mid-90s, however, their efforts failed to reach the mainstream. But this may change now, considering that many smart phone brands like Motorola, OnePlus are doing the same and are succeeding.
None of the companies have provided a schedule for when they might be looking to launch the new smart TVs. However, taking into account that they have made the association announcement, the devices may launch very soon.
In related news, Flipkart recently launched its own streaming device similar to the Amazon Fire TV device in India under its MarQ sub-brand. The device is called MarQ TurboStream and is currently available in Flipkart at 3,499 rupees.
