New Archos Platinum 80, 97 and 116 – Full features and good price together

The company Archos made a name by manufacturing tablets at low cost, especially before the Nexus 7 arrived, and the odd new product as its Gamepad. This is a company that although it had an important market (many people wanted a tablet but not at certain prices) It has lost bellows now that tablets that were previously high-end, like the Asus Transformer or the Samsung Galaxy Tab, have dropped in price. They can still meet his tablets, although they have stayed in ICS and some even with Honeycomb. Well, Archos has decided that it is the moment to relaunch, and it does it all in a big way with a range called Platinum formed by three tablets to three sizess (for most tastes)

• The Archos Platinum 80, IPS from 8.0 inches and with a resolution of 1024 × 768 pixels
• The Archos Platinum 97, IPS of 9.7 inches and with a resolution 2048 x 1536 pixels
• The Archos Platinum 116, IPS of 11.6 inch and with a resolution of 1920 × 1200 pixels

While they will not receive the originality award for names, it must be recognized that They try to attack all the niche markets of tablets, from 8 to 11 inches. Of course this would not be important if it were not for the specifications shared by the three tablets:

• Quad-core 1.2 GHz CPU
• Octa-core GPU PowerVR SGX 544, with ability to play 1080p
• 2GB of RAM
• 8GB of internal memory, expandable via microSD
• 2MP front and rear camera (without flash)
• Android OS Jellybean 4.1
• Micro USB 2.0: (MTP)
• USB host via OTG
• 3.5mm audio jack
• micro SD

As it can not be otherwise, the most impressive are the prices: the Platinum 80 costs $ 199, the Platinum 97 $ 299 and the Platinum $ 116,349. We must recognize that in general they are very good prices, especially 80, since it is a little above the Nexus 7 (it has more RAM) for a similar price. Archos presents them as able to handle the vast majority of multimedia in Full HD, showing how clearly it points to the same market it did before, people who want a tablet for simple things: most people want tablets to read well (IPS), watch movies (1080p playback), simple games (1.2GHz is enough) and an OS that does not give problems, and since you are, it is one of the last.

The truth the play may go well, especially considering that for that price Its direct competitors are the Nexus range, especially the Nexus 10, and its reduced stock You can play very much in your favor. Models 80 and 97 will be available sometime this month while for 116 we will have to wait for April (we'll see if any bargain comes out before at the MWC in Barcelona). What do you think, are they worth it, or does cheap end up being expensive?
