YouTube has finally banned the white supremacy content of its platform.
He announced a series of policy changes in a blog post on Wednesday morning that aims to address the vitriol well that his platform has become.
And of course, this movement is better late than never. The flip side of that coin, however, is too little too late.
“Today, we are taking another step in our hate speech policy by specifically prohibiting videos that claim that a group is superior to justify discrimination, segregation or exclusion based on qualities such as age, gender, race, caste, religion, orientation sexual or veteran status ", Read the blog post.
Included in that wide strip of content now banned, YouTube notes, there are videos that deny the Holocaust or the shooting of Sandy Hook.
This announcement comes at the same time that the company faces ongoing criticism for the management of a campaign of harassment directed against a journalist and an investigation into the New York Times about the healing and, indeed, the sexualization of children's videos by the YouTube algorithm.
“YouTube knows that it has many problems in its hands. Maybe you thought banning Nazi videos was an easy place to start cleaning your image? ”
The company waited until it was forced.
