The first thing we can think of when reading the headline is that there is an error. If we talk about sound, it doesn't make much sense to mention a mobile screen, right? Well, not exactly. LG has returned to give clues to what the technology behind its future LG G8 ThinQ will be like and in this case it has focused on audio, telling us about its new screen.
Google wants phones without speakers and with sound on the screen
Can you imagine that it was your screen that emits sound instead of your speakers? Although it may seem like science fiction, Google wants it to come true.
A screen that serves as an audio amplifier
LG has been one of the companies that has been most concerned with taking care of the sound of their phones. The LG V have stood out for their recording possibilities and for their integrated DACs, something that we have also seen in other models of the company.
This time the firm goes one step further and has used a CSO (Crystal Sound OLED) screen, a type of technology that uses the OLED screen as an audio amplifier. LG's intention is to turn the LG G8 into a perfect terminal to watch movies, play or listen to music without forcing us to put on headphones.
This new technology has been created by LG and use the OLED screen as a diaphragm so that the reverberations increase the sound volume, also controlling clarity, especially voices.
When we activate the loudspeaker of this terminal the system will use the screen to create a much more powerful sound, which will be emitted by the loudspeaker located in the lower frame next to the charger and the upper one, located at the top of the screen.
To achieve this audio quality LG has partnered with the Meridian company with which it has already collaborated on other sound devices, such as its speaker with the integrated Google assistant.
The LG G8 will have a DTS X 3D Surround Sound system that emulates a 7.1 system even without headphones. It also incorporates a Hi-Fi Quad DAC and the Master Quality Authenticated (MQA) will allow you to obtain high quality audio streaming without spending too much data.
Finally, the speaker Boombox Speaker will use, as in the LG G7, the interior of the mobile as a soundboard to improve the bass and increase the volume.
It is clear that the Korean company wants to give great importance to the multimedia aspect of the mobile, especially in sound, but it will be necessary to see if consumers care enough about this.
