It's been 10 years since Left 4 Dead 2 was released, and no, your eyes aren't cheating on you. Ten! Do you feel old yet? Although a decade has passed since Ellis, Coach, Nick and Rochelle made their way through the hordes of zombies, and Valve's aversion to number three, Dying Light's developer, Techland, still carries the torch Left 4 Dead with an upcoming cross event.
Dying Light is almost five years old, but Techland continues to support the zombie killer infused with parkour in the first person, even with Dying Light 2 on the horizon. After a recent Deadeye Promise event, the Polish developer hinted at a crossing of Left 4 Dead in a tweet, saying "We don't want to leave you 4 dead waiting for results!" This, of course, made people talk, and the crossover has now been confirmed.
Techland has not shared more details beyond this tweet, so we only have speculation about what this zombie crossover might imply. It is probably safe to assume that including cosmetics such as the character designs and voice packs of Left 4 Dead 2 instead of something more substantial like a new game mode or enemies like The Boomer and The Witch that appear in Dying Light.
However, it is great that Valve still recognizes the existence of Left 4 Dead, even if we are still waiting for another sequel. Who knows, maybe Valve has something else up his sleeve for the tenth anniversary of the game in November?
Dying Light 2 will be released in the spring of 2020 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC.
